Clinical Study of Supracondylar Fracture of the Humerus in Children.


Abstract
Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is the most common fracture about the elbow in children, and frequently accompanies neurovascular complication. A number of methods to manage supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children have been being practiced and the ideal one is generally agreed with prompt, accurate and anatomical reduction, performed with the least possible trauma, and it will prevent most complications.
102 patients with supracondylar fracture of the humerus who were admitted and treated at the department of orthopedic surgery of Jeonbug National University Hospital from January, 1978 to August, 1983 have keen reviewed.
The results obtain are as follows ;
1. Of all fractures, 92.2% were the extension type and 7.8% were the flexion.type.
2. In the injuries associated with fracture, there were 5 irsilateral forearm fractures and 8 nerve injuries.
3. Most cases were treated successfully by early manipulative reduction.
4. The results of the treatment of the conservative group was better than that of the operative group.
